Job Description

smartdept. is searching for a Director of Project and Operations Management for an innovative creative agency client located in Berkely, CA. The ideal candidate will come with 8+ years of experience. This is a full-time, hybrid direct hire position. Compensation for this position is expected to be 125-175K.

As Director of Project and Operations Management, you will serve as the strategic right hand to the agency leader, building out the project management practice while leading all aspects of resourcing and operations. This high-impact, collaborative role is focused on optimizing workflow, defining operational responsibilities, and supporting a diverse portfolio of creative and product-driven work. Were seeking a confident, entrepreneurial leader who is both solutions-oriented and adaptable, brings fresh ideas, strong client presence, and a producers mindset to every challenge.

What Youll Do:

  • Build, lead, and continuously improve project management and operational processes across the agency
  • Strategize and distribute operational and project management duties, ensuring the right tasks are assigned to the right team members
  • Collaborate closely with leadership to drive innovation, support change management, and scale operations
  • Solve problems proactively, acting as a resourceful producer who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
  • Oversee project delivery for a diverse range of creative and product-focused initiatives
  • Serve as a client-facing leader, stepping in for agency leadership as needed and representing the agency with executive-level stakeholders
  • Foster strong relationships across multi-level organizations, ensuring smooth communication and project execution
  • Implement ideas efficiently, balancing innovation with respect for established processes
  • Support technical teams and creative talent, helping drive projects from concept to completion
  • Champion a culture of collaboration, humility, and continuous improvement
