Summary

Parents providesa safe place for their teen to talk with about what theyÕre feeling.

Instructional Strategies

1. Make opportunities to share how you are feeling with teens, and why.

2. At mealtimes, during commutes, or whenever there is time to talk with a teen, let them know how you are feeling and why.

3. For example, you might say, ÒIÕm getting a bit anxious about the holidays coming up. I am happy to spend time with family but also nervous about taking time away from my new job.Ó

4. By creating an opportunity to discuss your feelings, you are letting the teen see your emotions in a healthy way.

5. This provides a safe place for the teen to talk with you about what theyÕre feeling, too.
