Five years ago, Annia Ciezadlo and Shahab Sirvani moved into a Beirut apartment together without ever having met. Their apartment had a spacious kitchen with a sofa next to the refrigerator (a Mediterranean thing). They spent hours in that kitchen, cooking, eating and talking politics into the night. At one point, ShahabÕs mother visited, bearing packages of ground walnuts and dried plums and other ingredients for fesenjoon, the legendary Persian dish that is as delicious as it is notoriously difficult to get right.
