Since 1981, Gustavus Adolphus College has hosted a peacebuilding conference funded by local philanthropists and named “MayDay”, the international distress signal as a call to action. The intention is to inspire attendees to work for peace. This coming conference will feature Dr. Maya Soetoro and Dr. Kerrie Urosevich, Ceeds of Peace founders. Ceeds of Peace describes peacebuilding aims as the “Goals of the Harvest”, in the case of our 2022 MayDay they are to:
- Empower participants to work for justice and peace
- Give tools to participants to implement when they leave in their peacebuilding work
- Elevate how to be an “Upstander” with solid skills-building
- Connect to resiliency, hope and future leadership
In this MayDay, and thereafter, we are integrating the Ceeds of Peace dynamic action promoting learning with activities and departmental strengths at Gustavus Adolphus College.
