Dr. Makaiau describes her history of growing up in Hawaii. She shares a helpful free cirriculum for educators called “Perspectives for a Diverse America”. It is an anti bias cirriculum that focuses on four main domains: identity, diversity, justice, and taking action. Has thousands muilt genre lesson plans that can be explored by gender, age, etc. She speaks of cultural diversity, poverty, violence, and the importance of being a role model for peace in classrooms and by teachers. She focuses on Critical thinking, Community, Culural resopnsivness. She highlights the importance of using Philosophy for Children in approach to teaching and learning, defined by a conceptual framework, and it is classroom strategies that teachers can use.
