Students adopt the perspective of those in history who are either poorly represented or not represented in history books, thereby building bridges between past and present, understanding cause and effect, and deepening their knowledge about contemporary issues.

Instructional Strategies

1. Get youth to adopt the perspective of those in history who are either poorly represented or not represented in history books.

2. Research historical lives

3. Youth create poems, journals, speeches, plays, or newspaper articles using voices of the past in order to build understanding and emotional connection through history.

4. Youth can also write letters from these people to contemporary individuals and address contemporary issues of importance.

5. They work to build bridges between past and present, understand cause and effect, and deepen their knowledge about contemporary issues.
