"I Am Here For You"

Activity

Summary

Participants will learn to help others calm an emotional outburst by supporting the upset person.

Instructional Strategies

1. When someone is experiencing anger, panic, or emotional outburst, let them know that they are safe. Often their minds and bodies are experiencing a stress response whereby they literally feel unsafe.

2. Instead of yelling at them or isolating them, Try saying, "I am here for you. I love you/I care about you. You are safe."

3. Then sit still and let the emotions rise up and pass. This is a vital skill of resilience.
