Participants will learn to express the underlying causes or needs that may make them upset or angry.

Instructional Strategies

1. When youth are angry or upset, it's important to teach them how to identify underlying needs and interests by asking open-ended questions to learn more.

2. Ask, "Tell me more", "What would you like to see happen?," "What do you need?" etc.

3. Give youth frequent opportunities to empathize and imagine needs and interests in history as well as in current events in the community and surrounding world.
