Summary
Intrinsically motivating tasks are personally relevant and challenging and make use of the brainÃs natural opiates. Instead of using measurements like grades, participants will be more motivated to take on a task if they feel a sense of pride or confidence upon completion.
Instructional Strategies
1. To motivate youth, minimize the emphasis on competitive grades and punitive measures.
2. Have youth think about what tasks and projects make them feel a sense of pride and care in both the process and the outcome.
