Summary
Participants will evaluate current civic controversies and use collaborative methods to discuss the ethics and opinions surrounding the issue.
Instructional Strategies
1. Have participants craft questions around passages about current civic controversies that have long histories, such as de facto segregation or immigrant rights.
2. Facilitate a vote on the questions participants want to pursue.
3. Use a community ball to facilitate discussion. (See Activity: Community Ball)
4. Questions might include, ÃIs it fair to give some individuals or groups a head start/leg up?Ã or ÃIs it our responsibility to listen to people in our community with whom we disagree politically?Ã
5. Your goal is for participants to become comfortable evaluating civil society and voicing their opinions in such a way that is beneficial to all members.
