Summary

Participants will gain a better understanding of Hawaii (or elsewhere) by listening to elders who have their own stories of the roles, rights, and responsibilities of an earlier time. Participants will appreciate the wisdom and perspective of the those who have lived through history.

Instructional Strategies

1. Bring in a knowledgeable kupuna (elder) to share their life story with your class.

2. Discuss how roles, rights, and responsibilities look similar or different in Hawai'i (or elsewhere) today.

3. Understand the shared humanity regardless of age.

4. Appreciate the wisdom and perspective of the kupuna (elder).

5. Visit the elders where they live and provide a service, entertainment, or just visit to socialize.
