"Peace is You and Me by Florence Weiner"
Content
Summary
Peace is just doing the regular things you do every day and not worrying about people getting killed and who wins the war.
So says Alyssa Bernstein, age 9, in a poem called Peace Is….Another child, age 6 says “Peace is nice to men and mice.” The issues are not complicated to thee children; the only question is, since peace is so lovely, why would people want to kill each other? It was a child who first said (to Carl Sandburg) “Suppose they gave a war and nobody came?” Here are direct statements by American children, both verbal statements and paintings, all expressions of love and hope and pain and indignation. “Give us the world,” the children say: “we shall sow the seeds of love and reap the plant of peace.” The world would do well to listen.
