"Rose and Thorn"
Activity
Summary
Participants can share the best (rose) and most challenging (thorn) parts of their day, as well as actively listen to others share.
Instructional Strategies
1. This is a good family activity. Locate a calm setting where all participants can focus on the activity, such as at mealtime or bed time.
2. Ask each person to share a rose (the best, special, or most positive part of their day) and also a thorn (the difficult or challenging part of their day).
3. This is a great way to get around one-word answers when you ask, ÃHow was your day?Ã and it helps everyone think about sharing their news in a more in-depth way.
4. ItÃs also great practice for active listening!
