"Thankenstein"

Activity

Summary

This activity is good for young participants. Participants will acknowledge someone that they appreciate by drawing their feelings and then telling the person how they feel.

Instructional Strategies

1. Write at the top of a blank piece of paper with "I'm so grateful that if I were a monster created by a mad scientist, my name would be Thankenstein."

2. Make a copy of the sheet of paper.

3. Give each child a copy, and have them draw their (happy) monster, then have them complete the sentence, "I appreciate you, (name), because ________________ ."

4. The final step is to have each child memorize what they wrote and practice reciting it.

5. Their assignment is to tell the person they named on their drawing what they wrote while maintaining eye contact. They have it memorized; remind them not to just read it.

6. Repeat to acknowledge more people that are appreciated.
